STUDENTS from Matravers School are helping design a new sustainable lake to support wildlife at Westbury Cement Works.
The students are working with the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and Lafarge staff to put their classroom theory into practice as part of an initiative run by Bath-based sustainability charity Envolve.
Provisional design work has already been done and the students will make a return visit to see if their proposals fit the area.
The students are looking at features to encourage biodiversity and create new habitats for sensitive species such as dragonflies and mayflies.
Lafarge's Westbury works manager Real Simard said: "This is an excellent opportunity for the students at Matravers School to deal with environmental issues on a practical basis.
"I am sure it will prove to be a valuable resource for the local community for many years to come."
