A POLICE inspector has promised to monitor speed levels on a town's streets after concerns were raised.
Inspector Gary Porter, of Melksham police, offered to carry out a survey of traffic speeds on certain roads in the town, following a town council request.
The town council will draw up a list of problem streets and these will be monitored using detection equipment.
But Insp Porter said often vehicles were not travelling as fast as they appeared to be.
"Having run the traffic department for Swindon for some time I know there is often a perception that people are travelling faster than they actually are," he said.
Cllr Nick Westbrook told Melksham Town Council's annual meeting on Monday they he hoped they could have a report back on the findings.
