WILTSHIRE Senior Cup winning captain Nigel Curtis admitted part of his side's motivation was to avenge last season's heartbreak.
The inspirational Corsham centre back revealed last April's penalty shoot-out defeat to Trowbridge Town hurt the players more than anyone knew and they were determined to avoid a repeat this time round.
He said: "I think that was a big motivation for us before the game.
"We all knew the pain of having to collect a runners-up medal and watching the winners celebrate and pick up the cup.
"We did not want to go through those feelings again and we felt it was time we put the wrongs of last season right, because we know we should not have lost that one.
"It was great for me to lift the trophy because it is the first thing I have ever won with the club. It has always seemed that whenever the club get some success I have been elsewhere."
The 3-1 scoreline does not tell the whole story though as Bemerton enjoyed the better of the first half but Curtis insists he was never worried about the outcome.
He said: "First of all I think we would all admit we have not played that well tonight. We are capable of much better performances and have shown that already this season, but we did enough.
"They looked lively upfront but I have to admit I didn't really think they looked like they were going to score.
"With the attacking players we have I always knew we would get a goal so I was never that worried.
"The second goal was important for us though and after that I thought there was only really one team in it."
Since a poor start to the season, Corsham have gone on a remarkable run which has seen them lose just twice in their last 31 games and Curtis says it has been a team effort.
He said: "Everyone has been magnificent, from the substitutes to the regulars.
"We could not have done it without everyone involved.
"Toby Colbourne made an instant impact for us when he signed from Westbury before Christmas and his goals have obviously been a huge factor.
"John Eldred also came in midway through the season and after being patient and biding his time he has come in and earned his place.
"He has not put a foot wrong and I have to admit I was surprised we took him off in the final because he was probably our most dangerous attacking player."
