PIG and Whistle United boosted their chances of claiming automatic promotion from Division Three with a 3-2 win over rivals Kings Arms.

United, who lost 5-3 to Chris Carr's young side just two weeks, came up against an Arms side who were missing the suspended Scott Askew and Shaun Daniels as well as Nick Gleeson, Dean and Lee Murden.

In spite of the handicap the Kings Arms took an early two goal lead, Dan Shanley and Nathan Flower scoring, but United pulled out all the stops as they hit back and overcame the two goal deficit to bring an end to the Arms' 17 match-winning run with a 3-2 victory.

Leigh Stevenson rolled back the years with a well taken hat-trick to earn United their vital win.

In midweek Pig and Whistle had twice come from behind to beat North Star B.

Darren Axford brilliantly lobbed the Star ahead, with Leigh Stevenson making it 1-1 before Chris Sampson gave the lead back to the Star. Paul McCarty drew United level and Aaron Richardson's 100th goal for United won them the game.

For a second successive game FC Bradford have dropped what could prove to be a costly point as they look for back-to-back promotions.

Things could have been worse for Bradford, as they trailed 2-1 White Horse deep in injury time when they won a penalty which was converted by Mike Embleton to earn them a 2-2 draw. This was after Steve Bryant saw his opening goal wiped out by strikes from Gary Perrett and Mark Pugh, who had put the Horse into a match winning position.

North Star B were another team who surrendered a two goal lead as Sir Audley Arms recovered from the early setback to win 4-2.

Virgin Mobile took the lead against Westbury Rangers B, but Dave Grandey's goal counted for nothing as Rangers netted two second half goals to run out 2-1 winners. Shane Rendell and Richard Wyatt scored for a Rangers side who have seen a reversal in fortunes since Dave Griffin has taken over at the helm.

HAT-TRICKS from Stuart Bevan and Richard Holman resulted in bottom placed All Cannings gaining a surprise 6-2 victory at fourth placed Corsham Cricket Club.

Corsham Cricket Club were more than happy with the point they gained in midweek against Trowbridge Harriers. The cricketers were put under constant pressure from start to finish but somehow held out for a 1-1 draw.

Mickey Spong's second minute strike gave Harriers the lead, with Luke White equalising at the start of the second period earning them their lucky point.

Westbury Rangers A had to battle hard to overcome a gutsy Bradford News side before taking two vital points in their quest to take the title.

The newsmen fielded a number of youngsters for their midweek clash and although they were outplayed for long periods they dug deep and defended well to keep the score down as goals from Paul Beavers and Marc Lanfear earned Rangers a 2-0 victory.

Bradford News did a little better on Sunday when they returned from Hullavington with a share of the spoils from a 1-1 draw. After a goal-less first half Hullavington's Craig Samuels broke the deadlock when his shot went in off the upright. Russell Francis earned the newsmen their point with a rasping strike from 20 yards.

Andy Wileman's 13th minute effort earned Biddestone Social a 1-0 victory over Trowbridge Harriers. For Wileman it was his first goal of the season, as the normally reliable defender had to play up front as Biddestone had lost their strike force due to Calne Town playing a Sunday afternoon game.

After 18 minutes of drab football in which the Dog and Fox Ashley were unable to find the net it took only four minutes for Mark Robinson to start the scoring for a magnificent seven goals that saw them maintain second place with a 7-2 win over Sherston Town.

Steve Roddy, Mark Gerrish and Robinson made it 4-0 at the interval.

Sherston staged something of a revival in the second period with a Richard Lester double reducing the arrears, but any thoughts Sherston had of a fightback were wiped out as Steve Wikings added number five. Ricky Trott and Steve Roddy (penalty) completed the goal glut.

Division One

CORSHAM Centre's 6-1 victory over North Bradley on Tuesday night coupled with their 5-2 defeat of North Star A at the weekend allowed them to open up a three point gap on Colerne FC at the top of the table.

Simon Gray led the scoring against Bradley with four and Richard Boore hit Centre's fifth, which was also the club's 100th goal of the season. Jack Nicholas completed the half dozen.

Leigh Trainer's stunning free kick was Bradley's only consolation.

The Centre were three up against the Star after just 15 minutes but from then on they were made to work hard for their 17th straight league win of the season.

Rob Stevens (2) and Simon Gray struck for the Centre before Tommy Ludford's brilliant goal reduced the gap. Gray added a second to restore the Centre's three goal cushion, but once against the Star hit back with Victor Long finding the net. Jack Nicholas netted the Centre's fifth with a blistering strike from 35 yards.

Colerne's last home game of the season resulted in them picking up two more points, which keeps them in the second automatic promotion spot.

Jamie Bowler became Colerne's leading hit man to date when his first half effort gave the villagers the lead. A superb header from Richard Smart doubled the score and only some woeful finishing from Colerne and excellent keeping from Calne's shot stopper in the second period saw the score remain at 2-0.

Winsley are still in the hunt for a top two finish after they saw off the challenge from a very depleted Wingfield side with a 5-1 scoreline.

Wingfield took the lead through Ian Williams but Winsley levelled when Nick Ridout and Gary Higdon combined to give the latter a chance which he buried to draw the game.

Higdon added a second and just before half-time Carl Harfield made it 3-1 when his 30 yard drive was deflected home.

Dan Lardner drove home from the edge of the centre circle to make it 4-1 and Nick Ridout completed the scoring two minutes from time.

North Bradley's hopes of avoiding relegation received a massive boost as goals from Neil Maidment and Daniel Foster gave them a 2-0 victory against Semington Rovers.

Chippenham Police were at a loss to explain their dreadful form against The Horse and Groom, who were 7-2 to the good at the break. Three quick goals at the start of the second period saw them build a 10-2 advantage.

The Police then tightened things up and scored two more goals to end up on the wrong end of a 10-4 scoreline.

Paul Daly led the demolition with five of the Horse's 10 goals. Paul Bendell hit four and Dave Appleyard a single. Jason Roberts scored two in reply for the Police, one of which was a 30 yard thunderbolt and the other a neat header. Adam Davey and Tim Culling added the others.

Division Two

SOUTHWICK Sports thrashed Parsons Nose 8-0.

Southwick's unlikely goal scoring hero was Neil Kendrick, who bagged a hat-trick. Liam Brown (2), Stuart Greenwood and Andy Colebrooke were also on target.

Christian Malford's most experienced player Steve Evans was unable to play against Blue Circle as he had got married the day before.

Despite falling behind to a Steve North goal after just 20 seconds his Malford team-mates responded to give him a belated wedding present of two points that took the villagers to the top of the table, after they hit back to claim a 5-1 success.

Scott Evans (penalty) and Jamie Munns fired Malford into a 2-1 half-time lead.

Malford then went on to seal their win with two more from Evans that took his tally to 41 for the season. Richard Bruce hit Malford's other goal.

King Alfred's shock 3-1 success over Potterne should mean they are safe from the drop.

Peter Huntley put Potterne ahead, but a hat-trick from Gavin Ferris gave King Alfred the points.

AC Soho's 6-1 triumph over The Crown Devizes has moved them into fourth place and within striking distance of Potterne.

Ian Brown claimed The Crown's consolation which saw Stuart Swann blast a penalty over the bar.

Division Four

TUESDAY night's 3-2 surprise defeat for Rowde Dynamos away to AFC Pilot saw them miss out on the opportunity to take over at the top of the table.

Although they were given a second chance to topple leaders Bar OC they were unable to take it as injuries forced them to postpone their game with Pack Horse Rangers.

Goals from Nigel Hall and Lee Jackson within three minutes of the start had Pilot flying high. Hall's tamely hit free kick from 25 yards caused great embarrassment to Dynamo keeper Ashley Robinson, who let the ball roll between his legs and into the net.

Jackson's goal was a classic up and under. Thirty yards out and near the touchline,Jackson's cross sailed high into the air before coming down to earth in the back of Rowde's goal.

Ashley Edwards pounced after a mix-up in Pilot's defence to reduce the gap and Jamie Mullins hit back to tie the game at 2-2, only for Rob O'Harrow to hit the bulls eye and give Pilot their win, which saw them become the first team to beat Rowde in 17 games.

The bottom half saw a lot of movement, with Cooper-Avon relegating AFC Melksham to the foot of the table.

With Melksham inactive the tyremen knew that if they could manage to beat AFC Springfield they would swap places with their local rivals, which they did courtesy of a 3-2 victory.

An utterly dismal first half performance from Springfield saw them trail 2-0 at the break. Cooper's opener from Kyle Mather was a soft goal to concede at any standard of football, Mather's shot from outside the area rolled into the net past the outstretched arms of the keeper.

Cooper's second goal arrived from a corner, Bruce Newman heading home.

Springfield got back into the game from the penalty spot, Scott Fleming converting his fifth spot kick of the season after Chris Andrews was fouled.

From then on Springfield remained camped in the Cooper-Avon half, with Fleming again coming close from a dead ball situation.

Good performances from Fleming and Thompson led an onslaught at the Cooper goal which resulted in substitute Owen Cranshaw levelling the match only minutes from time.

The game looked like ending in stalemate when up stepped Cooper-Avon's old warrior Shane Thornton, who had come on as a substitute, and slotted home to give Cooper-Avon a 3-2 win.

Due to work commitments The Crown were without manager Matty Strong but still managed to beat KSM 2-0. After a goal-less first half the pivotal point came was after 65 minutes when Adam Bewley received a throw-in from Luke Gough, who lost his two markers and drilled an unstoppable shot across goal into the far top corner.

With five minutes The Crown scored their second when Rob Mitchell cut in from the left, beat two defenders and lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper into the empty net.
