STUDENTS can get a head start in the health care sector thanks to a new course at Wiltshire College Trowbridge.
The level two Intermediate Diploma for Medical Receptionists will be the first of its kind in the county when it opens at the college's College Road campus in September.
The course is designed for anyone looking to work as a medical receptionist or secretary or for dental clinics, opticians, social services and local health authorities.
Lecturer Lynne Beta said: "As a division we are so excited to be the only college in Wiltshire to offer this new and varied course.
"The specialist knowledge and work experience aspect will be a great asset to students when applying for jobs, as it will give them an edge over other applicants."
During the one-year, full-time course, students learn the structure and functions of health, community and service, and communication skills.
They will also be taught medical terminology and receive hands-on work experience in an area of choice. The course also includes the European Computer Driving Licence award and key skills in communication, application of numbers and IT. The college is taking applications now.
