Midge UreEIGHTIES pop legend and Third World aid pioneer Midge Ure is to headline this year's West Wilts Show.
The former Ultravox frontman, who was one of the driving forces behind Band Aid, will take to the stage on the Friday of the three-day show.
This year's show, sponsored by the Wiltshire Times, was launched at a preview reception held yesterday and organisers hope to outdo previous years.
Michael Williams, chairman of the show's steering group, said: "This summer's event is already shaping up to be the best yet.
"We have a fresh look to the entertainments programme, guaranteed support from many local businesses in the form of sponsorship, and the majority of exhibition spaces have now been sold.
"The countdown has now well and truly started."
Midge Ure will be joined at the Friday-night show by 70s glam rockers The Sweet, who topped the charts with classics such as Ballroom Blitz and Blockbuster, along with Beatles tribute act Sgt Pepper.
Also on the bill is comedian Greg Suggitt, pop choir En Masse and singer Ben Gunstone, as well as the Ultimate Tribute to Bryan Adams and a host of local bands.
This year will be the ninth time the bi-annual show has been held in Trowbridge Park and the Civic Hall and it usually attracts crowds of people from all over the area.
Karen Crockett, publisher of the Wiltshire Times and Chippenham News, said: "The West Wilts Show is a great event for all the community and we at the Wiltshire Times are very happy to lend it our support."
As well as musical entertainment the show offers firms the chance to let people know about their businesses.
There will also be celebrity guests, games, fairground rides, children's entertainment, refreshments and a wide range of fun activities to appeal to all ages. The show will completely fill Trowbridge park and Civic Hall.
The show will be officially opened by Maj Gen the Duke of Westminster, in his role as assistant chief of defence staff (reserves and cadets), on July 28.
