COUNCILLORS in Moredon have met with the council leader to discuss new mobile phones masts in their ward.
Residents in Moredon are unhappy about a new 45m O2 mobile phone mast put up at the end of Manor Crescent.
Heading the campaign is mother Karen Kelly, 47, of Manor Crescent, who was this week joined by about 20 other residents in a protest.
Wards councillors Derique Montaut and Colin Lovell met leader Coun Mike Bawden yesterday.
Afterwards, Coun Montaut (Lab Moredon) said: "We looked at various matters such as the health issues and the concern of local residents and we asked the leader of the council to throw his weight behind this.
"A report will be going to the planning committee on Tuesday, April 26.
"The discussions centred around the siting of the mast and we will instruct the council's officers to work closely with O2 to find an appropriate alternative site."
He added: "It might be possible to put this particular one on a council-owned building such as a council depot in Rodbourne Cheney.
Coun Bawden said: "The legislation is enacted in such a way that it gives telephone companies the upper hand.
"We can't turn applications down on health grounds because the guidance we are getting is that there is no evidence that masts are a health danger."
