SAM Parkin looks unlikely to be heading to Loftus Road next season despite further speculation linking him with his boyhood favourites.
The Evening Advertiser understands that while Ian Holloway is indeed a member of the Parkin fan club, his summer transfer kitty lacks the necessary clout needed to prise the 24-year-old away from the County Ground.
Parkin, who yesterday jetted off with the Scotland Future squad to prepare for tomorrow night's match with Austria, has long been linked with a move to Loftus Road.
Rangers are his boyhood favourites and there is the small matter of Mark Devlin occupying the chief executive's role at the Championship club.
Devlin was Town's chief executive when Parkin was transferred from Chelsea, and he also spearheaded negotiations to extend the striker's deal.
That deal included a trigger fee in the player's contract which enables him to speak to other clubs.
Sources close to Rangers suggest that it is 'unlikely' such a fee would be found as it would leave Holloway with little or no room for further summer shopping.
However, just because one club may not have the necessary cash, there are plenty of other potential buyers.
They are likely to take extra special interest in tomorrow night's game at the Pappelstadion in Mattersburg.
Parkin is expected to play some part of the game.
Speaking shortly before the squad departed, he said: "I'm really excited about it and it will be another good test for me.
"I also think it's come at a good time. Had we been involved in the play-offs, which we obviously wish we were, then it might have been more difficult.
"Hopefully I'll take the chance that's been presented to me and do myself proud.
"I have been to Austria before but I suspect it'll be a bit different to last time, that was on a school skiing trip!"
