WITH just three games left, Chippenham has been deposed from the summit of the Southern Premier.
A 1-1 draw at home to third-placed Bedford allowed Histon to take over at the top by a point courtesy of their 3-0 romp against relegated Solihull.
The title race looks increasingly like going to the final game, when Steve White takes his Bluebirds to Histon.
Chippenham could have been further adrift but for Dave Gilroy's equaliser on Saturday.
White's troops trailed at the break to Daniel Purzycki's low drive.
But the home side improved after half-time and took just four minutes to restore parity when the prolific Gilroy tapped in Scott Walker's cross. Walker, pictured above, went closest to secure maximum points but had one stinging shot blocked by Steve Jackman and a trademark volley sail just wide.
Cirencester kept alive their slim prospects of making the play-offs thanks to a 3-0 home win over lowly Stamford.
It took a timely double substitution from Brian Hughes on the hour to set the ball rolling throwing on forwards Paul Hunt and Jody Bevan.
Veteran Hunt headed home within seven minutes of his introduction, before sending Nick Stanley clear to make it 2-0 on 79 minutes.
Bevan completed the scoring late on, deflecting in a Mark Richards strike. But other results did little for Ciren's promotion prospects as Bath City, Tiverton, Hednesford and Halesowen all won.
The Centurions remain two points off the top five, but four teams remain above them in the quest to break into those coveted play-off places.
