FRIENDS of football fan Michael Flatman will be green with envy this morning when he tells them of his adventures at Liverpool at the weekend.

On Saturday, 10-year-old Michael lived out a dream when he walked out on the pitch at Anfield as the team's mascot at the Tottenham Hotspur match.

"It was really cool," said Michael, who lives in Swindon town centre.

"I was really nervous going on the pitch in front of 55,000 people but it was really grea. I have got some new trainers, a Liverpool kit, badges, autographs and pictures of me with the players.

"Everyone at school is going to be really jealous."

Michael won the chance to be a mascot through a magazine competition he sent off for over a year ago.

When the Evening Advertiser spoke to Michael last week, he admitted he never thought he would win but according to his dad Joe, Michael hasn't stopped talking about it since they returned.

Mr Flatman said: "It was an excellent experience for Michael, brilliantly organised and they gave him loads of stuff, kit, trainers, badge even the referee gave him his badge.

"He's come back with a lot of happy memories he hasn't stopped talking about it."

Michael marched onto pitch alongside favourite player Steven Gerrard and even had a short-kick about with him before the match started.

Mr Flatman also said it had been a week of good news in the household, with Michael winning the competition and Mr Flatman being offered a new job after being long term unemployed.

Unfortunately, having Michael as a mascot didn't appear to bring good luck to the Liverpool side, as they drew 2-2 with Spurs.

Before kick-off, there was a minute's silence in remembrance of the 96 Liverpool fans who died in the Hillsborough tragedy on April, 15 1989.
