POLICE are investigating the death of a soldier from Swindon found dead at a barracks in Bicester.

Officers from Thames Valley police were called to St David's Barracks in London Road, Bicester, on early on Tuesday, April 12, where they found the body of Pte Gregory Bruce.

Pte Bruce, 28 was found in his Army accommodation at the barracks which is home to 23 Pioneer Regiment.

It is understood he had hanged himself.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "Officers are investigating the death as a matter of course but we are not treating it as suspicious."

Reports suggest that Pte Bruce was serving in Northern Ireland and had been posted to Oxfordshire.

His next of kin have been informed but it is believed they do not live in the Swindon area but overseas.

An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned by Oxfordshire coroners.

Reports suggested that that Pte Bruce may have been the victim of bullying.

His regiment is part of the Royal Logistic Corps the corps involved the recent Deepcut Barracks scandal in which four servicemen are said to have killed themselves.
