COUNCILLORS in Moredon who are discussing mast problems are not correct in saying that "health and perceptions of health" cannot be a planning consideration.

Sir William Stewart, a member of the Independent Expert Group On Mobile Phones has said fears for health, real or imaginary, can be a valid planning consideration.

Also, in his report for the NRPB, the UK statutory body providing research and advice on protecting people from radiation hazards, he states: "We conclude that it is not possible at present to say that exposure to RF radiation, even at levels below national guidelines, is totally without potential adverse health effects, and that gaps in the knowledge are sufficient to justify a precautionary approach."

The council would be unwise to place masts on its property because it will be liable for damages for ill health or devaluation of property etc when evidence that these masts are harmful is accepted. Anyone interested in researching this can do so on www.mastsanity.org or phone 08704 322 377 Monday to Friday from 1pm to 8pm.
