THE Gazette's man in Marlborough and Pewsey over most of the last four decades, Nigel Kerton, has been presented with a Rotary International Centenary Community Award.
The framed certificate was presented to the father of two yesterday by local Rotary president Gordon Spiller.
The award states: "For outstanding vocational service in the community supporting the Rotary International goal of promoting a healthy and peaceful world."
Nigel was brought up at Lyneham where his late parents ran a village shop for many years.
He returned to his adopted county, Wiltshire he was born on the Mendips in 1968 after working on the Weston Mercury in Weston-super-Mare.
From 1990-99 he worked for the Western Daily Press but still covered the Marlborough and Pewsey area, which he said, he loves.
The Gazette & Herald claimed a double success at the Wiltshire Media Awards last week.
Sports editor Stuart White and news reporter Hugo Tilney were both successful in their respective categories.
Stuart, 27, was presented with the Sports (print and web) Reporter of the Year 2004 award despite joining the Gazette only in November.
The Gazette and Herald's Swindon reporter Hugo has scooped the Best Newcomer award at the Wiltshire Media Awards 2005.
Stuart, a former Surrey Mirror sports reporter has previously won a National Sports Writers award and spent last summer in Athens covering the Olympic Games.
His winning entry included features on Ryder Cup golf star David Howell, skeleton bob ace Shelley Rudman and the Swindon Town Youth Team.
Hugo's category was open to anyone with under three years experience and he managed to beat off fierce competition after just eight months in the job.
Judges praised him for his writing, his ability to sniff out the scoops and the sheer quantity of stories written each week.
More than 50 reporters from newspapers, television and radio entered the awards, organised by the Wiltshire branch of the National Union of Journalists.
