TOWN councillors fear their opposition to car parking charges in the Market Place has not been taken on board by Kennet District Council.
Kennet councillors are due to discuss setting up a pay and display meter in the Market Place and charging 30p for 30 minutes parking, the first time a charge has been made.
A report to next Tuesday's meeting of Kennet District Council's car parking orders sub-committee says that 32 letters of objection have already been received from traders and private
individuals.
However, it said none had yet been received from statutory consultees, which include the town council.
In fact, at their meeting on March 22, town councillors voted to object to the scheme.
They branded it as unfair, pointing out that parking is free in other areas of Kennet, including in both Pewsey and Tidworth.
Sarah Todhunter, town clerk, admitted there had been a delay in sending out the letter to Kennet District Council.
But she said councillors' objections would be laid before next week's Kennet sub-committee meeting.
