15939/03VILLAGERS at West Lavington are being urged to do their shopping over the Internet to help raise £60,000 to build a new youth club in the village.
West Lavington Youth Club's own shopping website www.buy.at/WLYC was launched in the function room of the Stage Post Inn on Monday evening, when club secretary Ray Dawson explained how using it would not only get local residents discounts on goods and services but make big profits for the club.
Mr Dawson said that the youth club had planning permission to build their own premises as an extension to the village hall but that it needed to raise £60,000 for the work.
But he told the meeting that the website could realise up to £20,000 a year in commission from companies like Marks and Spencer, Comet, Amazon, Thorntons and MFI.
The club's chairman, actor George Baker, said: "This is a wonderful initiative. This is a way of local people lending their support to our community at no cost to them and perhaps of a great deal of benefit to themselves."
