THE great and the good of Swindon will be gathering this Saturday for the annual Evening Advertiser-backed charity ball.
The ball will be held at the Marriott Hotel and will attract business leaders, civic dignitaries as well as partygoers with the aim of raising thousands of pounds for a host of Swindon charities.
This year's event will be aiming to beat last year's record fundraising efforts when £44,000 was raised.
Swindon Scrapstore, The Open Door Centre, Swindon Therapy Centre, NSPCC, North Swindon Family Centre, Broadgreen Breakfast Club, Leaves, Druglink, Lower Shaw Farm Children's Project and Reach Inclusive Arts will all benefit from the event, which is now in its 16th year.
The ball is also being supported by Nationwide, Swindon Rotary Club and the Marriott Hotel.
Nationwide is the event's main sponsor, and last year they matched the money raised, pound for pound and will be doing the same again this year.
Since it was launched in 1989 it has raised more than £440,000 for local charities.
