A KITE extravaganza will be coming to Swindon next month.

The festival will be free to visitors for the first time this year.

And it will be the 15th Swindon Kite Festival to be held at the Science Museum in Wroughton.

The event has become a popular family day and this year will be no exception.

Professional and amateurs can show off their kite-flying skills.

Kite flyers from across the UK will be joined by a number of international guests, including the Historic Kite Group from Germany, who will be displaying the Arnot Haft kite collection and Ralf Maserski and his box towers.

As part of the day's activities two of the massive aircraft hangars at Wroughton will be opened up for the day for children's workshops.

There will also be trade stands offering advice on choosing the right kite and expert staff from the Science Museum will be on hand to provide special tours of the collections.

Ken Barbour, programmes manager at the Science Museum, said: "We are very happy to welcome the kite flyers back again to the Science Museum this year and delighted that it will be free to visitors.

"Whether you want to be amazed by the professionals or have a go yourself, this year's festival will be a great day out for the whole family."

The festival is open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8.
