MAY I firstly state that I am a massive Calne Town FC fan as well as a fan of sport within the immediate Calne area. I have no hidden agenda.
Therefore with reference to the ongoing saga of developing sports pitches at Beaversbrook I would like to ask our councillors when these pitches will be ready for action.
Can we please see a developmental timetable which will be adhered to so that Calne's criminal lack of football pitches can be addressed.
Just to put the general public in the picture, of the six Chippenham Sunday League sides based in Calne, only three actually play in Calne, the rest playing their home matches at Goatacre, Avebury and Hullavington.
This is a scandalous situation. Do not even get me started on the youth sides.
As for my own team, Calne Town Football Club, is it any wonder that they are looking for stability in where to play their football?
Over the last six years a change of controlling council has seen the Bremhill View outfit threatened with eviction (to build houses), only to see this rescinded (to maintain the green space), and now eviction, apparently, reinstated again, even though throughout this whole episode there has never been a viable location for the club to move to.
The solution is surely for the council to sort out the Calne teams who are currently homeless within their own town and get the Beaversbrook playing fields project up and running, then maybe other teams might be interested in moving to this facility.
Unfortunately due to the lack of a football person on Calne Town Council, someone to push this project through in a positive meaner, instead of instigating needless slanging matches, I cannot see the Beaversbrook Playing Fields project ever coming to fruition.
Please prove me wrong.
