YOUR front page article in last week's Gazette and Herald about the damage to a tree on Devizes Green caused by Wessex Water shows just how little care they have for the environment and other people's property.
This is the latest episode in the saga of the inconvenience caused to our lovely town by the work this company has carried out.
Earlier this year we saw the return of traffic chaos as a result of renewed 'improvement' work to the water system. This followed last year's work on the Green where they dug up roots of trees adjacent to Devizes School wall.
The tree in question was planted by my late grandmother Gwen Winchcombe, who as chairman of Devizes Evening Townswomen's Guild raised the money to buy the tree. It was planted during the national Plant a Tree in '73 campaign which aimed to improve the environment and raise awareness of environmental issues.
