In the article on M4 cameras (Gazette, April 14) Mr Frampton of the Wiltshire and Swindon Safety Partnership is quoted as saying, in his reply to the Association of British Drivers, "that the police have investigated the cause of all fatal crashes we have had on the M4 and they say that the vast majority are speed related".
Well, they would wouldn't they? Further to the comments in your opinion column, here is the ideal opportunity for the Gazette to be proactive. Acquire these accident reports, using the Freedom of Information Act if necessary, subject them to independent analysis and see just how many are caused directly by excessive speed. We may then find out whether this is a genuine attempt to reduce accidents or just a revenue raising measure.
