FORMER Kent opening bowler James Golding managed just five overs on his debut before rain cut short Wiltshire's friendly against Corsham on Sunday.
Golding made the best of difficult conditions in his first game since returning from Australia where he played for Balcatta over the winter.
Receiving figures of 1-10 he said he enjoyed his first game for Wiltshire and is looking forward to taking on his old county side at Salisbury in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy match on May 3.
The Keynsham seam bowler said: "I am really looking forward to the Kent game.
"I have played against most of them even the new guys they have signed when they were at other counties."
Golding was approached by Wiltshire through former England international Richard Illingworth who he played with for Barnt Green last summer.
He said at the time he had no idea Wiltshire had drawn Kent, who he spent four summers with playing 12 first class games and around 50 one-day games.
"It couldn't have worked out better. When I was having a chat with some of the guys from Wiltshire I was not even aware what the situation was with the draw," he said.
"I am sure I will have a chat with the lads about them before the game."
Wiltshire coach, Brian White, said he was pleased to have Golding on board.
"He's played first class cricket, opened the bowling for Kent and he's a big lad so he'll worry the batsmen when he bounces the ball."
White said it was good to get on the pitch this weekend but was disappointed not to get more time.
Corsham captain and Wiltshire wicketkeeper, Neil Shardlow, agreed: "It was a bit of a wash out.
"We came to an agreement on the toss and we decided Corsham bat because Wiltshire wanted to look at a few bowlers.
"It started to drizzle and then we called everyone in."
Shardlow said, despite the batting performance leaving Corsham 33-3 off 13 overs, he was pleased with teenager Tom Abbott's performance who hit 18 not out.
"I was impressed with Tom. He opened for the last four games of the season and he played well."
Shardlow revealed Corsham had signed up an overseas player from South Melbourne in the form of top-order batsman Steve Nicholls, and was looking forward to him joining the Corsham squad.
"He was recommended to us by a former player. We've been lucky because we had a contact out there and got this one quite quickly."
Another new signing is James Ashford-Brown from Devizes and Shardlow feels the mixture of youth and experience in the ranks could lead to a successful season.
