CARNIVAL festivities will arrive in one town a month earlier than usual, in a bid to involve more people.
Melksham Carnival will be held on July 16, rather than in mid-August as usual.
Melksham mayor Terri Welch said holding it in August, during the summer holidays, meant youth groups were less likely to take part.
She said: "It's going to be a very much bigger procession this year and this year we are really, really making an effort. We have some new blood in the committee which is always helpful."
Organisers have thought up a novel fundraising appeal.
Local businesses are being asked to donate £50 towards the cost of organising the party, with all those taking part being entered in a draw to choose the one main sponsor for the event, which will be held on May 6.
Cllr Welch said about 80 businesses had pledged their support already.
Any business that wants to get involved should contact Jo Gray on (01225) 350204.
