A BIZARRE sending off helped Devizes draw with fellow mid-table side Odd Down during a hard-fought physical encounter.
With seven players out through injuries, suspensions or other commitments Devizes manager Mark Godley can feel proud with his side's performance against the Bath-based team.
Stretching the unbeaten run to four games with the draw, both goals came courtesy of penalties.
The second of the penalties went to Devizes on 70 minutes after an Odd Down player appeared to handle the ball behind the line.
With the assistant referee flagging the Devizes bench and players celebrated, only to stand confused within seconds when the referee pointed to the spot and sent off the Odd Down defender.
Godley, said justice prevailed when Nathan Perkins smashed the ball into the top-right corner.
He said: "At the time I don't know whether I would have preferred the goal or the player sent off and a penalty.
"For the rest of the game we were on top and in the ascendancy but I would have to say a draw was about the fair result and it keeps our unbeaten run going.
"We now have ten points from the last 12 and showed a lot of character to keep going after being a goal down.
"With Odd Down being in the same position as us it was a healthy point for both sides."
Devizes had gone a goal down from a penalty after Andy Coombes caught a player when tracking back on 55 minutes.
