CORSHAM ground out a victory over mid-table Brislington on Tuesday night thanks to a Tony Colbourne strike.

Midway through the first half Colbourne swerved and unleashed a fierce shot flying past the Brislington keeper.

Chances were few and far between with Corsham creating more than the travelling side.

In the first half Colbourne's strike partner, Alan Griffin, was played through on goal and with the target at his mercy blasted the ball wide.

Corsham manager, Colin Bush, said he was pleased with the result and the effort of his players.

"I'm quite happy to grind results out at this stage. I'm pleased with the result and am not going to analyse the performance.

"On the performance I think we probably deserved it."

Sticking with the 3-5-2 formation which gave them victory over Bridport earlier in the week, the home team again needed time to adjust but once they did Corsham dominated in every department.

Bush said he felt on another day his side could have won by three or four goals and almost did with close efforts from Jack Cullis and substitute Scott Lye, rested due to his excursions with the successful Wiltshire Youth team.

On 80 minutes Cullis found room in the box before hitting the ball over and five minutes later Lye picked up the ball and lobbed the oncoming keeper before the ball was cleared off the line.

"We kept with the 3-5-2 formation but I will probably revert back to 4-4-2 on Saturday," added Bush.

"We were a little bit disjointed in the first half but much better in the second.

"Even though I say we were a bit disjointed, no one was playing particularly poorly and a new system does take a bit of getting used to.

"Brislington wanted to come and put on a good show after their great result against Bridgewater and came with that form so it was never going to be an easy game."

Bush also praised his defence for a fourth clean sheet in a row. "We've only conceded 25 goals and we've scored 70 plus so I can have no complaints."

Bush said he would be looking to use his whole squad with trips to Barnstaple Town, the crunch clash against Frome Town and home game against Hallen all coming in four days.

Corsham currently lie in second place ahead of Frome Town who played Melksham Town at home last night.

Bush is looking for a good result this weekend to boost morale.

"The Barnstaple game is one that was called off a month or two ago.

"It's away from home and a one-nil will do down there.

"We are going 150-odd miles away and it will be difficult but the criteria is the same as ever. One point away, three points at home.

"Their striker Kevin Squires is a good player to watch out for."

Bush added he felt his team could go to Frome and grab a result in a match that could determine who finishes second in the table.
