Sunday sees the 20th playing of the Wootton Bassett RFC annual seven-a-side tournament for the Wyn Rees Memorial Trophy.
Local team Great Western Rugby, made up of members of Wootton Bassett and Swindon College OB, are endeavouring to repeat their success of 2004 by winning the tournament for the second year. However they are up against some stiff opposition, in what promises to be the best starting line-up in the competition's history.
The 2003 winners, 1 Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment (The Slashers), return to the tournament after peacekeeping duties in Kosovo.
The Slashers are the current Army champions and have a number of Fijian players, two of who have represented Fiji in the IRB international sevens tournament.
There will also be a strong presence of Commonwealth players representing the Royal Logistics Corps, Germany, and 1st Btn The Black Watch, who themselves have only recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.
The competition kicks off at noon with the finals scheduled for 6pm.
