AMBITIOUS Shrivenham are certain of a top two finish in Division One West of the Hellenic League.
A 4-2 win at Winterbourne on Tuesday ensured at least runners-up spot with only three games remaining. They are one point clear of Trowbridge Town but have a game in hand.
But for Shrivenham's dream of promotion to the Premier Division as champions or runners-up to become a reality they must upgrade more of their facilities at their Recreation Ground.
Two years ago they received a substantial £215,652 from the Football Foundation to build modern facilities at the ground.
And early in the year they were awarded another big cash boost with a grant of £51,500 from the Football Stadia to help finance the installation of floodlights and further ground improvements.
"We needed to raise our 25 per cent which equates to £17,000 to obtain this latest grant and upgrade the club further," said Shrivenham chairman Ian Richardson, pictured.
"It is a hard target to achieve but we are doing well in our major fund-raising efforts to reach the figure.
"We decided to break it down and the eight floodlight pylons equate to £1,500 each with £5,000 for the other works, a covered area for supporters.
"The 'floodlightathon' is well on the way to being achieved. Thanks to generous donations and pledges we have covered six of the eight floodlights.
"So we need now to raise another £3,000 for the last two lights and £5,000 for the ground improvements.
"The ball is rolling well and I am extremely hopefully of reaching our target by the June deadline and installing the lights in July.
"We also have plenty of other fundraising schemes coming up so if anyone wants to help us please contact Rob Forty on 07767 371414.
"It is an exciting time for the club both on and off the pitch," he added.
Shrivenham can take a step nearer the title with a home win over Easington tomorrow.
Manager Alan Dyton said: "Easington will be an awkward game as they have moved up to fifth with a run of good results. But once again this is a game I expect to win. Five points from three games is all that is needed."
Steve Thomas is out for personal reasons, Paul Carson has work commitments, while Russ Byrne and Mark Peters are out through injury.
Shrivenham lost 3-0 at Ardley in the first leg of their Supplementary Cup semi-final last night, Andy Brien missing a penalty.
n The club will be staging the inaugural Shrivenham FC Golf Day at Carswell on Thursday May 19.
All proceeds raised go towards the ground improvements fund.
The entry fee for this first year is £160 per team of four, which includes meal and light refreshments and some excellent prizes.
Anyone wishing to enter a team should contact John Pugh on 01367-240765.
n A FIVE-A-SIDE tournament is being run on Sunday June 5 with all proceeds going to the 'floodlightathon'.
Registrations which are £35 per team must in by May 20. .
There will be six teams per league with the top two going through to the quarter-finals.
Refreshments, BBQ and a bar will be available at the club all day.
