DEVIZES U9s continued their impressive season of form by winning this Sunday's Festival of rugby held at Cooper Avon in Melksham.
Devizes competed on a league basis against four other teams including Melksham, Bradford on Avon, Walcot, and arch rivals Trowbridge.
Devizes' cruised to a comfortable 20-0 victory in their first match against Walcot, with Charlie Paget,and Alistair Broughton, putting the points on the board.
Devizes then squared up against Trowbridge, intent on victory after having had to settle for two draws with them earlier in the season. An awesome performance from both teams in a well officiated match ended honours even at 0-0.
Melksham CAT, were next under the Devizes cosh. Devizes ran in four tries to achieve a comfortable and deserved 20-0 win.
Finally, Bradford on Avon, having held Trowbridge to a single try, were in the Devizes' sights.
The Saddlebacks knew that they needed the win to secure the medals, and ensure that Trowbridge, the only team threatening their top position were held in second place. Suitably inspired, and with impressive doses of flexibility, the Devizes players mauled them to a 25-5 defeat.
Devizes travel to the Isle of Wight Vectis Festival next weekend.
n An excellent all round performance from the Devizes U12s saw them emerge undefeated victors at the Melksham festival on Sunday.
A try in each half without a reply meant Devizes started the morning with an early win over Walcot.
In the second game saw Devizes scored 10 points to nil to defeat Trowbridge.
With five tries on the board, Devizes coasted to a comfortable win over CAT Melksham setting up a decider against Bradford-on-Avon.
Devizes did very well to score a try after two minutes and captain Edward Mardon pounced on an opportunity to go over in the corner late in the first half.
Bradford exerted enormous pressure, and Devizes spent the last five minutes of the game defending near their own line.
The lads showed enormous strength and character to defend strongly right up to the final whistle and it was that team spirit which took them through undefeated.
