ANDY King could get the chance to pit his managerial wits against Jose Mourinho this summer if Town can strike an agreement with Chelsea over the sale of one of their teenage prospects.
Mourinho's club, who could be crowned Premiership champions if Arsenal fail to win tonight, are being sounded out about a County Ground pre-season friendly as they close in on the signing of a 13-year-old member of Town's youth set-up.
Any match would form part of the deal that sees the teenager go to Stamford Bridge, although Town could also be offered a player from the Blues set-up as part of a loan arrangement.
Town and the Blues have failed to strike a financial agreement over the transfer, leading to the League One side pitching the friendly or loan idea to the West Londoners.
Grant Smith, meanwhile, is confident his displays this season will finally allow him to banish the 'son of' tag as he looks to extend his stay at the County Ground.
The 24-year-old netted both goals in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers to extend the side's unbeaten run to three matches.
Smith has struck 10 times in his last 20 starts after cutting a frustrated figure for the first half of the campaign.
A new contract offer was finally expected to land in his lap today and he would like to stay and repay the supporters who stuck by him during his darkest hours at the club.
He said: "I want to stay. The fans have been quality since I've come into the team and they were pushing for me to get in the team before I got my chance.
"You don't forget things like that."
Smith, the son of Gordon Smith, he of 'And Smith Must Score' fame, added: "It's nice to make my own way. When you have a famous or infamous relative you can't avoid these things.
"Hopefully at 24 I'm starting to be seen as Grant Smith, end of story."
Manager Andy King said: "He has done extremely well. He's surprised me although I don't think he's surprised himself.
"We always knew he was capable but sometimes you have to blossom.
"He got a chance, took it with both hands and the rest is history."
Midfield rival Brian Howard, though, was at Saturday's match on crutches, having been diagnosed with a broken foot, while Sam Parkin also missed Saturday's victory through injury.
Having been linked with Portsmouth on Friday, Parkin completed the south coast speculation 'set' yesterday after a Sunday tabloid claimed Harry Redknapp was keen to take Town's leading scorer to St Mary's.
Sean O'Hanlon was another Town casualty on Saturday, and could be out for the rest of the season.
