77129-32THE Friends of Lethbridge School hosted an organic market offering homegrown produce to mark St George's Day.
The mini-market, held in the Old Town school's playground on Saturday, included meat, eggs and fruit and veg from local Swindon farms.
Local organic producers on show included Purton House, selling vegetables, fruit and eggs and Sheepdrove Organic farm, which was promoting its home delivery meat.
The Lethbridge caf was also serving Fairtrade tea and coffee and snacks including a special St. George's Day bacon buttie, made with organic bacon and organic white bread.
Inside the school hall there was a table-top sale.
Shoppers were able to sample a selection of Sheepdrive's organic meats, freshly cooked on a barbeque.
Friends of Lethbridge Primary School chairwoman, Vivienne Wise, said: "I'm not sure what was the biggest attraction the mini organic farm market or the table top sale.
"I read recently that according to a survey the smell of bacon is the nation's third most popular aroma, after vanilla and cut grass.
'So I think the smell of the special bacon butties tempted people to celebrate St. George's Day by tucking into the traditional favourite."
