PEOPLE in Wroughton are urged not to be complacent about bogus callers after a bizarre false alarm.
Swindon Primary Care Trust the body responsible for GP surgeries and other medical services in the area issued a warning after learning that "bogus" callers were operating in Wroughton.
Callers were apparently offering free sight tests and leaving leaflets and cards carrying the Swindon Primary Care Trust logo.
Checks later revealed the callers and leaflets were in fact genuine.
Police spokeswoman, Jacqui Broadbridge, said it proves the awareness campaign is working.
"Someone has obviously reported a suspicious caller, which is exactly what we are encouraging people to do," she said. "People are definitely becoming more aware and asking to see identification."
l Last year there were more than 50 distraction burglaries in the Swindon area. Police believe that many are carried out by travelling gangs from the Midlands and the south of England who swap information with each other to make sure they hit the right homes at the right time.
