A MAN who was in collision with a car at a busy Swindon junction is in a critical but stable condition.
The 33-year-old suffered a fractured skull and injuries to his lungs, leg and ankle after the accident at the junction of Groundwell Road and Drove Road.
He is being treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
At about 10.40pm on Friday, the man was crossing the road opposite the Merlin pub from Groundwell Road towards Cumberland Road when he was struck by a vehicle passing from the Magic Roundabout towards Old Town.
Several motorists stopped to help including a nurse from the Great Western Hospital.
Adver photographer Siobhan Boyle, who witnessed the accident on her way home from covering a boxing match, said: "I stopped at the traffic lights and was in the filter lane to turn into Groundwell Road.
"It was on green to carry on straight up Drove Road. As I stopped there was a lad crossing the road. He saw me stop so must have assumed it was safe to cross, not realising the other lane was on green. When he walked across, the car hit him.
"It all happened so quickly. He was hit really high up into the air and hit the ground quite a way up the road it was horrible."
Anyone with information about the accident can phone Swindon police on 01793 528111.
