But the literacy event at Lainesmead Primary School took place in the middle of the day.
As part of the school's Book Week the children were split into two groups to write a bedtime story and read it out to the other group.
Kate Bees, the school's literacy co-ordinator, said: "It's been a successful week. The aim was to promote the enjoyment of reading.
"We had a visit to Old Walcot library and staff from the Central Library came to the school and read stories for the children.
"The children were very enthusiastic and I've heard that a lot of them joined have the joined the library."
The children also took part in a competition to design covers for books they had read. The winners were presented with £5 book tokens.
A vote held during the week proclaimed Roald Dahl as the favourite author of both the younger and older children.
