HEAVY rain did not stop Martin Isles when he scorched to victory, doubling the weight of the second-place angler, in the latest Westleaze Open held last Saturday, writes GODFREY HARGREAVES.

Martin used double sweetcorn to take a great catch of 75lb 1oz, including a carp of 13-4-0.

Second was Richard Baston, who also used sweetcorn to take 34lb 9oz, and third was Dick Young who weighed in 34-2-0.

'A' Section winner was Gary Etheridge with 32-13-0 after losing a number of big fish on light gear. 'B' Section winner was Mick O'Brien (15-2-0).

OTHER RESULTS

Carp are showing at last at Ivy House Large Lake where Ivy House AC had a very tight match on Sunday, with Russell Wilmott winning from peg 50 with 27-4-0.

Second was Derek Hillier with 26-4-0 (peg 29). He was followed by John Bailey 24-15-0 (peg 10) and Robert Keeping (peg 15) 24-12-0. Twenty one anglers fished and all fish caught were carp.

Wednesday Club Match at Ivy House (small canal): 1 Barry Jee (peg 23) 17-12-0, 2 Alan Clark (16) 16-15-0, 3 Cliff Brown (7) 16lb, 4 Pete Saunders (20) 15-7-0.

Peatmoor Committee and Juniors weighed in 46lb 10.5oz and the three counties committee and juniors weighed in 38lb 10oz in their match at Peatmoor. Top individual was Nathan Reeves of Peatmoor with 10lb 5oz. Runner up was James Forty of Peatmoor with 9lb 5oz and in third place with 7lb 15oz was Pete Sarahs of Peatmoor. In fourth place with 6lb 6.5oz was Ian Didcite of the three counties.
