Bill Holliday Picture Ref: 77179-23A RESIDENT is so sick of seeing cars going the wrong way up a one-way road that he has started taking snaps of guilty motorists.

Bill Holliday, of Bedwyn Close, said that nearly every day during rush hour traffic cars flout the one-way system in Limes Avenue, Pinehurst.

And after becoming increasingly frustrated with what he says is a lack of action from police and Swindon Council, he has decided to take matters into his own hands.

Camera in hand, the 57-year-old waits beside the road and takes pictures of unsuspecting motorists breaking the law.

He is compiling a catalogue of photographs to pressurise authorities into taking action.

And among the snaps is one of a taxi owned by Swindon-based firm Link Radio Cars.

"It has caused chaos especially during the morning and evening rush hours," said Mr Holliday, a retired binman.

"Vehicles going the wrong way get in the way of others. I worry that a kiddie on a bike could get hurt, as they may not expect vehicles to come from both directions.

"I got so angry about it that I decided to mount a campaign.

"I don't think this should be allowed to go on any longer," he said. Police say they are investigating the problem and would welcome any photographic evidence.

"Motorists who contravene traffic legislation not only put other road users in danger but also themselves," said a Swin-don police spokesman.

"Needless to say their actions can result in very serious consequences. Swindon Police welcome any initiative from the public which helps to identify offences and offenders.

"We appreciate and rely on the support of local people in helping us to take action against those responsible."

Peter Simpson, managing director of Link Radio Cars, said he would investigate why one of his vehicles had gone the wrong way.

"I would just like to know who it is," he said.

"We'll investigate and take appropriate action."

After a spate of accidents, Swindon Council is looking at ways of enforcing a 20mph speed limit in the Pinehurst area. Plans for the scheme are scheduled to be announced later this year.
