THE inaugural games of the new Wiltshire Youth Cricket League were washed out last weekend with only one game hearing any sound of leather on willow.
But a handful of matches took place at the weekend, with newcomers South Wilts getting off to a flyer.
Secretary for the league, Paul Rowson, said the inclusion of the two new teams Devizes and South Wilts would add to the competitiveness and benefit the county side.
He said: "Last year South Wilts tended to play in the North Hampshire League but there was not really an organised structure.
"They saw the North Wiltshire League was playing well and even though it is a lot of travelling for them, they are happy to join.
"South Wiltshire, in terms of the senior team, are the strongest and they are also very strong in all their age groups.
"This year Wiltshire's U17s are in a division with five first class county sides."
