DAVID Wilson Homes, which is currently completing the conversion of the northern part of the former Roundway Hospital site for housing, has applied for planning permission to build 132 homes at the former Le Marchant Barracks.
Kennet District Council received the application from the company last week. The plans are similar to those that appear in a development brief prepared by Broadway Malayan planning consultants for the Defence Estates.
Kennet District Council approved an outline plan last August but the new application is for full planning permission.
As well as 99 houses and apartments, the existing barracks block, built in 1878 as the headquarters for the Wiltshire Regiment, will be retained and converted to 33 apartments and town houses.
A package of community benefits agreed with the developers, worth more than £500,000, includes a contribution to a new primary school at Quakers Walk, an extension at Devizes School, a toddlers' play area and money for adult recreation facilities and road improvements.
