WILTSHIRE Fire Brigade says the cause of last week's fire which damaged two homes in Wick Lane is still unknown, despite an investigation carried out by fire officers.
The investigators have established that the fire started at the front of the roof space of the home where 89-year-old Margot Ann Bennett has lived since before the Second World War.
Miss Bennett was not at home when the fire broke out at around 3.30pm on Tuesday of last week and she is currently living in temporary accommodation elsewhere in the town.
Fire officers had been told that workmen from local building firm Gaiger Brothers had been working on the building earlier that day, but they have not established a link between their work and the fire breaking out.
Michael Gaiger, a director of the firm, confirmed that their employees were at the house on the day, but would not elaborate on the type of work being carried out.
It is understood the matter is now in the hands of loss adjusters employed by the insurance companies involved.
David Bousfield, Miss Bennett's solicitor, said his client was now settled in her temporary accommodation.
