Pat Willis beside the dangerous all Picture Ref: 77154-263WHEN part of an old wall was sealed off in Highworth, residents assumed it was being repaired.
But that was six weeks ago and it hasn't been touched since.
The two metre-high stone wall is in Home Farm, at the rear of a row of bungalows.
Children often play near it and residents fear there could be an accident if the stonework is unsafe.
Highworth Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Pat Willis is worried.
"This a retaining wall and there are steps at each end leading to a footpath and bungalows," he said. "It is mainly elderly folk who live in the properties and they use the footpath all the time.
"Why haven't the council shored it up? I'm worried it could collapse."
Pensioner Den Drew, 77, lives in one of the bungalows. "I've been living here for seven years and the wall has been getting steadily worse," he said.
"When they cordoned it off, I thought they were doing something about it but nothing's happened. I keep phoning the council but no one knows anything about it."
Another resident, Les Hodgetts, 85, said: "Motorists can't park by the wall and have to leave their vehicles sticking out in the road. I have heard of at least one car which was damaged."
Swindon Council spokeswoman Hellen Barnes said: "The council has carried out investigations into the wall and It is expected that the temporary repairs will be complete by the end of May."
