BOTH Chippenham's U8 and U9 squads came away from Bath's Junior Festival on Sunday as champions.
In the U7s, Chippenham's first game was against the hosts, Bath, and they lost a tight contest with the final score of 30-20. The Chippenham tries came from Jack Prangle, Kyle Kent, James Tucker and Tom Douglas.
Their second game against Havant was a 20-10 loss but the Chippenham defence was tenacious in their final pool game Chippenham's tries came from Ryan Talbot and Kyle Kent in a 35-10 loss to WInchester.
For the second consecutive season, Chippenham's U9s came away from the Bath Festival as joint winners.
This was a tremendous achievement, considering this was the first time all season they have played together collectively. It was not surprising therefore, that the team struggled early on.
They kicked off with a 5-5 draw with Havant and a 10-5 loss against Bath 'A', but having refuelled with pasties, they put in a strong 15-0 victory over Winchester which put them through to a semi-final against Redruth.
Eventually Chippenham's superior strength and determination paid off and the tries came to secure a 15-0 victory over their dogged opponents.
The final held on the Bath first team pitch for the second successive year against Bath 'A', saw tiredness beginning to set in. Chippenham opened the scoring but some hard running from Bath saw them finally break through to draw even.
The Bath Festival was the last one for Chippenham's U10s Sharks and their first match against Bath A turned out to be a narrow loss.
In their next game against Havant the Sharks forward pack though dominated most of the game, allowing the ball to flow to the backs and into the hands of Daniel Vertessy who scored a hat-trick of tries in this game.
Ryan Parry make a run cutting through the defence to score the match winning try.
The Sharks narrowly lost their last game to Winchester and didn't make it through to the play-offs.
Infringements mounted up and the Sharks found themselves vulnerable. Winchester took advantage and ran in two tries to snatch the game 10-0.
