On behalf of Barnardo's South West, I would like to thank the people of Devizes for supporting us.
The Gazette & Herald was kind enough to publicise our appeal for extra pairs of helping hands at our High Street shop, which raises funds for some of the county's most vulnerable and disadvantaged children.
Safeway supermarket was equally generous in allowing us to man a display at their entrance for two days earlier this month, when we sought to attract new volunteers.
I am pleased to say that the publicity in the newspaper, at the supermarket and on BBC Wiltshire Sound, has generated a positive response.
Not only have we started interviewing a number of potential new volunteers, but we also raised more than £200 in donations.
Aside from this, several other people took away our collection bags and returned them with bundles of clothes, books, toys and other goods.
We would still be delighted to hear from readers who would be interested in joining our small but friendly shop for a few hours a week, or who can offer goods for sale.
Their generosity will help to protect local children and young people from poverty, abuse and discrimination, offering them a better start in life. Please pop in, or call (01380) 721247.
