COMPETITORS in the Ivy House Fishery Wednesday open match enjoyed some good sport.
Venue specialist Gary Etheridge, from Devizes, chalked up another fine victory with a mixed bag of carp and silver fish weighing 61lb, taken on pole-fished sweetcorn on a 14 hook.
Runner-up was Ivy House matchman Steve Collins with a mixed bag weighing 39lb 10oz, taken on pole-fished pellets.
Viaduct Fishery was again in good shape for the midweek open match, with carp feeding well.
Andy Lloyd, of Frome, won with an all-carp catch weighing 133lb 10oz, taken on waggler-fished pellets on a 14 hook.
Runner- up prize went to Team Sillybait matchman Paul Garrett with a carp catch weighing 97lb 2oz, taken on waggler-fished pellets on a 14 hook. He was followed by Mark Lenaghan, of Avon Angling, with a carp catch weighing 90lb 13oz.
The Carps AC open match fished at Viaduct Fishery attracted a good entry but weights were somewhat below their best.
Steve Denmead, of Frome, won with a carp catch weighing 80lb 14oz, taken on legered pellets. Trabucco Avon Angling matchman Martin Rayet was second with a carp catch weighing 72lb, taken on long -ole fished pellets.
The Airsprung match fished on Sunday provided some reasonable sport on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Avoncliff.
Dean Adams, of Bradford, won with a mixed catch of roach and skimmers weighing 7lb 10oz, taken on pole-fished punched bread on a 20 hook. Similar tactics gave second prize to Roger Green, of Trowbridge, with a mixed catch of roach and skimmers weighing 5lb 5oz.
Steve Saunders, of Bath, was third with a mixed catch of roach and eels weighing 3lb 14oz, taken on pole-fished chopped worm on an 18 hook.
Other placings: 4 Mike Marsden, Warminster, 2lb 9oz; 5 Steve Southern, Trowbridge, 2lb 6oz; 6 Richard Stainer, Trowbridge, 1lb 9oz.
There was a close finish in the Waterside AC match fished on Sunday on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Semington.
Anthony Shepherd, of Frome, won with an all-skimmer catch weighing 8lb 7oz, taken alternating with pole-fished worm and red maggots. Runner-up prize went to Vic Hillman, of Midsomer Norton, with an all-skimmer catch weighing 7lb 6oz, taken on pole-fished red maggots on a 20 hook.
He was followed by Steve Shepherd, of Frome, with a mixed net of roach and skimmers weighing 7lb 5oz, taken alternating with pole-fished worm and red maggots.
Other placings: 4 Tim Steel, Radstock, 7lb 2oz; 5 Mike Key, Radstock, 6lb 4oz; 6 Ray Ryder, Midsomer Norton, 5lb 12oz.
The Wilts Angling open match fished at Witherington Farm on Sunday produced top class sport, with carp feeding well.
Paul Bond, of Trowbridge, gained a comfortable win with an all carp catch weighing 137lb 6oz, taken alternating with pole and waggler fished sweetcorn and pellets. Mick Gunning, of Trowbridge, was second with a carp catch weighing 91lb 12oz, taken on pole-fished expander pellets.
He was followed by Julian Heaven, of Chippenham, with a carp catch weighing 83lb 8oz, taken on pole-fished paste.
Other placings: 4 Nick Johns, Trowbridge, 72lb; 5 Ian Willetts, Bradford, 69lb 8oz; 6 Fred Eagles, Trowbridge, 59lb.
