OFFICERS from Swindon police are preparing to move into their new headquarters on the eastern edge of the town.
They are on the move because facilities at two of the town's three police stations Westlea and Fleming Way are now deemed outdated and unsuitable for modern policing. In the new building at Gable Cross, frontline officers and specialists will be brought together under one roof.
The building, which is situated just off the A420, will have an adjoining car park and regular bus services to the town centre and other parts of Swindon.
It is also on a cycle route.
There will also be three satellite police points the North Police Point behind Asda Wal-Mart, West Police Point in front of the Link Centre and Town Centre Police Point in Bridge Street which will act as drop-in centres for members of the public.
Highworth Police Station will continue to operate as it does now and there are plans for a fourth police point.
A Swindon police spokesman said: "We are confident that our new police station at Gable Cross, together with the satellite police points, will provide a range of facilities to meet the needs of our community today and in the future.
"It is crucial that Swindon police can respond to the challenges of modern policing and changing demands."
