CHIPPENHAM NEWS: Formula 1 racing is set to come to Chippenham High Street this summer.
The town council has joined forces with the town centre partnership and Wiltshire College Lackham to host a go-kart race day in August.
The Gravity Race will be launched tomorrow at Chippenham Town Hall with a plea for members of the public to enter and build racing karts.
Two races, the Formula 1 and the Formula Fun, will be held in Chippenham High Street.
Emma King, events and PR manager at the town council, said: "I had the idea of a race of this kind some time ago, and the support and expertise of the Motor Sport Engineering Department at Wiltshire College, Lackham has now made this event possible.
"The gravity race promises to be the most exciting event in Chippenham this summer."
All of the go-karts entering the race must be non-powered and handmade.
Entry packs, rules and design ideas will be available at Saturday's launch from 10am.
To help budding gravity racer designers, the motor sport engineering department at Wiltshire College Lackham will hold a free weekend workshop on July 9 and 10.
