A CHILDREN'S football team on the other side of the world has been kitted out with Swindon Town strips.
The children from Moquegua, in Peru, have received the kits after they were handed over to Father Kevin Hennessey, of St Mary's Catholic Church in Tovey Road, Swindon, during half-time at Town's recent match against Tranmere Rovers.
The Bishop of Clifton Right Reverend Declan Lang met the children during a pastoral visit to Peru earlier this year.
They were playing in a tournament organised by Father Daniel O'Sullivan, who is originally from Bath.
The bishop noticed that the children were playing in T-shirts and contacted Father Hennessey, a Swindon Town supporter for more than 30 years, who recently became the youth team chaplain.
The club then gave Father Hennessey the kits.
Father O'Sullivan said: "The boys in my parish have never possessed real football shirts.
"I grew up as an avid Bath City supporter and vividly remember some memorable cup games between Bath City and Swindon Town.
"If my memory serves me well, in 1961 Bath drew away 2-2 with Swindon and then lost a thriller 6-5 in Bath.
"A very big thank you to Swindon Town Football Club for helping us to encourage the noble game here in Peru. I and our young footballers wish the club every success."
