THREE other servicemen may have tried to take their lives at a barracks where a Swindon soldier killed himself.

A police inquiry was sparked when Private Gregory Bruce, 28, was found hanged in his barracks room at Bicester three weeks ago.

Now several national newspapers have reported that three other soldiers at the barracks have tried to commit suicide in the past six months amid allegations of bullying.

It is claims that one senior non-commissioned officer tried to slash his wrists.

Another soldier attempted to take his life after returning from a tour of duty and a Private tried to hang himself in his room while drunk.

St David's Barracks in London Road, Bicester, is home to 23 Pioneer Regiment part of the Royal Logistics Corps.

The unit is at the centre of allegations of widespread bullying at Deepcut barracks in Surrey.

Four young soldiers died there from gunshot wounds between 1995 and 2002.

The death of Pte Bruce who had served in Northern Ireland is being investigated by Thames Valley Police and an Army Board of Inquiry.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "We can confirm that a police and Army investigation is taking place into the death of Pte Bruce.

"There is no pattern of suicide or self harm at 23 Pioneer Regiment and any incidents are unrelated.

"The Army takes great care in looking after the welfare and security of its personnel."
