GAZETTE & HERALD: CHIPPENHAM fans went to hell and back at the weekend as they suffered the agony and the ecstacy of football.
An army of Bluebird fans flocked to Cambridgeshire to support Chippenham's bid for promotion but their wings were clipped by a 1-0 defeat.
But they eventually had plenty to cheer about on Monday when Chippenham won the semi-final of the play-offs in a thrilling penalty shoot-out.
On Saturday about 400 fans, many covered head to toe in blue, descended on the Glassworld Stadium in Histon.
In the biggest game since the FA Vase final at Wembley in 2000, Chippenham's crowd was in good voice, despite being a coach-load down when a coach went the wrong way round the M25 and overheated in Cambridge.
Stuart Wright said he was woken up by his excited son Michael at 6.30am.
"It was our first away game but we have gone to all the home games this season," said Mr Wright, who added that on the way home the buses were still full of singing and cheer despite the result.
Steve Billett, who went with friends and family, said at the game: "We could not miss this."
Elliott Dugdale went to both Saturday's and Monday's matches. He said: "The game at Hardenhuish was brilliant. We had people just hugging us that we didn't even know."
