SUSPECTED arson caused a blaze that raged all night on a farm near Westbury. More than 100 hay bales caught alight at Clivey Barn Farm in Dilton Marsh.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire, which 19 firefighters from Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury tackled. They were alerted at 5.55pm on Sunday and crews spent all night dealing with the blaze.
A silage heap surrounded by the bales also caught fire and a fire break was made using a mechanical digger.
No one was injured in the blaze but fire crews feared if it had it spread it could have been much worse.
Leading firefighter Bob Burt said: "It was a prolonged fire which needed some aggressive fire fighting.
"Farmers from nearby helped out with mechanical aid to make a break in the flames. There was a lot of smoke and at first we thought it could be quite bad."
