WARMINSTER captain Mark Coxon-Tenty is determined to banish memories of last season's heartbreak by leading his side to promotion this time around.

Despite finishing top on points in the Gloucester and Wilts Division One, Warminster were bumped down into second spot by Stroud, who finished with a points average 0.36 higher, having played three fewer games.

Coxon-Tenty said: "We were all very disappointed by what happened and still feel it was unfair having played more games than Stroud did.

"But I guess we learnt that one bad performance could really cost you and we can't afford to do that this season. Bonus points are vital."

Last season's star performer, Australian Sean Maxwell, has departed but fellow Aussie Nick Curran will take his place, after being highly recommended by Maxwell.

Maxwell clocked up 880 runs in 14 innings last summer and with five not outs he finished with an average of 97.78.

Coxon-Tenty said: "Nick played for the same club in Canberra as Sean did and he has come very highly recommended by him.

"He batted three in Australia, whereas Sean batted seven in the same team so we have high hopes for him."

Warminster have also added seam bowler John Powell to their ranks. Powell has moved to the area from up north and impressed in the opening warm up matches.

Coxon-Tenty said: "He seems a really good prospect as well so things are looking good for the start of the season."

Warminster were knocked out of the national cup to Exeter on Sunday but were able to take out a lot positives from the game.

Warminster entertain Trowbridge in their opening game tomorrow.
