TROWBRIDGE have been rocked by the retirement of two former Wiltshire players as they look to challenge for the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Division One title.

Top order batsman Richard Greatorex and slow left arm bowler Michael Beel have decided to call it a day after last campaign's midtable finish.

Tom Edwards has returned to the County Ground after leaving the club three years ago for Devizes, while South African all-rounder Darryl Brown has also been added to the squad.

They start their campaign at Warminster tomorrow and captain Richard Holbrook believes the retirements will give some of the up and coming stars a chance to shine.

He said: "We have got some very good youngsters here and hopefully they will get more opportunity this season.

"Luke Morris is only 17 and made his debut last season and I have high hopes for him in the batting line up, while Pete Hickerton is only 19 and should also have a good season."

Holbrook was disappointed with last season's midtable finish but he is confident the platform is there to build on.

He said: "This year we are definitely looking for promotion. We were frustrated by last season's performances because we could not produce any consistency.

"Every team in this league is capable of beating each other and it is the most consistent team that will win the league.

"We have been practising hard, which is perhaps where we have slipped up in past years, and I am confident all the players are willing to give 100 per cent."
