I WOULD like publicly to thank the Wiltshire Constabulary, especially Inspector Miles, Sergeant Stannard and their licensing officer Ms Gallimore and the West Wiltshire District Council for taking control of the situation concerning late-night drinking, anti-social behaviour and noise nuisance in Westbury town centre.
We consider it has been established that the Market Place is a mixed business and residential area and that the character of the town depends on the area remaining a place where people are happy to live. This has sadly not been the case for the past two or three years. Both the police and the council have shown great care and concern for balancing the interests of the residents with those of business and should be congratulated on the sensitivity of their approach and for seeing it through to a satisfactory conclusion.
We trust the new start will be supported by all residents.
